What we're aiming for
We use WCAG 2.1 Level AA as our voluntary technical target for this public directory. It guides design and testing, but this statement is not a certification of conformance.
We have not had an independent audit, so we don't claim conformance. What follows is what has actually been built and checked, and what hasn't.
What's in place
- Keyboard access — every control is reachable and operable by keyboard, with a visible focus ring on all of them. A “skip to content” link is the first thing you reach on every page.
- Colour contrast — text and background pairs are checked against the 4.5:1 requirement in both light and dark mode. The lowest pair on the site measures 5.10:1.
- Dark mode — follows your system setting.
- Reduced motion — if your system asks for less motion, animations are switched off rather than merely shortened.
- Screen readers — headings are ordered, form fields have real labels, errors are announced, and star ratings are read as “4.7 out of 5, 3 reviews” rather than as five ambiguous icons. Charts have a matching data table.
- Images — business owners are asked for a description when they upload a photo. Decorative graphics are hidden from assistive technology.
- Zoom — the layout works to 200% without horizontal scrolling.
Known gaps
- The map is the weakest part. Pins are reachable by keyboard, but comparing locations on a map is inherently visual. Everything on it is also available as a list at Browse, which is the accessible route to the same information.
- Owner-supplied content — if a business owner writes a poor photo description or an unclear listing, we can't fix that automatically.
- No independent audit and no testing with real screen-reader users yet. Both should happen before this is treated as a finished claim.
Tell us if something doesn't work
If you hit a barrier, email jaiscollins2@gmail.com and say what page you were on and what happened. We'll fix it, and we'd rather hear about it than not.
